DIY woven garden bed border, turn your garden waste into something useful.
This year I really wanted to get a raised metal bed to grown my vegetables in until I worked out the costs for buying the planters and filling them with earth and compost. So much for saving money growing your own veg!
That got me thinking, can a build a bed for free? Using materials from my garden? Yes you can!
Have a look how I clear my overgrown garden, and turn branches I pruned into a woven beds!
You simple put sticks into ground, mine are roughly 20 cm tall, every 15 cm or so and weave longer, and bendable sticks in between. You alternate which way they go so where the first horizontal stick goes behind the upright stick, the next one goes to the front of the stick. This kind of woven barrier is called a hurdle.
For me the edging of the bed is just to show where not to walk, keep the dog out and make the vegetable patch a bit prettier. You can weave higher and tighter if you want to create a slightly raised bed.
The stone I use on the path is Cotswold chipping and I used a couple of bags I picked up at my local Aldi.
I filmed this the end of April and my seedling were not big enough yet to be planted out, hopefully I can show you an abundance of vegetables soon!
