Old Christmas tree transformed into egg cups and spoons!!
You know I like using materials I already have lying around, how about turning my old Christmas tree (the one from the bird feeder Christmas tree video) into egg cups and spoons for Easter!!
With a few tools this is a simple make that I found very relaxing. It was great sitting outside, enjoying the early spring sunshine, carving the egg cups.
But my favourite might be the spoons! Some cheapy teaspoons given a little make over. Love the idea of making more spoons from ones I find in charity/thrift stores.
The last little make in this video is the egg crown, with a fancy egg cup and spoon the egg felt a little underdressed. A bit of floral wire and 1 minute later egg was wearing a crown :D
For the egg cups, cut the base of your tree.
Cut that in pieces of roughly 7 cm tall.
Drill a hole, I used the widest paddle drill piece I had 22mm and use a wood carving knife to make the whole wider to fit the egg perfectly.
Also take off the bark.
Sand smooth.
For the spoons cut a branch that feels the right thickness for your spoon to roughly 15 cm long.
Take the bark off and sand smooth.
Cut the handle of your spoon.
Saw a slit in the handle deep enough so your spoon is stable, roughly 2 to 3 cm. Put glue in the opening, I used Gorilla Glue Clear, push your spoon in the handle, wipe away the access glue and add some paper tape to keep it all in place while the glue dries.
The spoon is hand wash only and try not to get the handle to wet.
The crowns are made with 50cm of floral wire.
Wrap the wire around 3 fingers to make a circle, twist this closed. Make one bunny ears, twist the wire around the circle a few times and make the other ear. I like decorating my egg crowns with a little dried flower.
