In this time lapse video, I decided to make a sketch that focused on hair drawing. Click the link above to see the reference photograph I used for this drawing.
I decided to leave out features of the woman's face and other details that were not relevant to the hair. Drawing long, flowing hair is a major sticking point for so many folks learning how to draw people. Although this is not a full tutorial, this time lapse video can nevertheless help you pick up a few tips about hair drawing.
After sketching a rough outline of the woman's head, shoulders, and so on, I sketched a basic outline of the shape of the hair. Then I began identifying and placing some major sections of hair. Finally, I worked section by section to draw strands of hair flowing along each section, being aware of highlights and shadows nearby.
