Here is a time-lapse video of a detailed realistic pencil drawing I completed.
This is a drawing of two hands holding each other. As you can tell from the video, I used a light box and grid to make a line drawing of each hand on Bristol board paper. Then I shaded in tones with wooden graphite pencils, use some blending tools to blend the tones together, and repeated this process with additional layers.
