This is my first board build. So not trying to show 'best practice'. This is just documenting what I did, on my first attempt.
Wing foil board dimensions 5'3" x 26" volume: 80L
Quite a few steps came between my last video on the 'shaping' and this video on the laminating of the bottom. Sorry didn't setup the timelapse... These steps included:
Insertion of foil box in place (Securing with a mixture of epoxy and microballoons filler. On this board I also put a layer of eGlass on the box inserts)
Insertion of high density PVC blocks for footstrap inserts, handle insert, leash plug
You may notice I've also completed the first stage of the deck sandwich; which involved a layer of eGlass, then 3mm HD PVC foam across the whole top deck, epoxy vacuumed in place.
Lastly just before this video, the preparation included:
Masking top deck line to sand cut back carbon to afterwards
Cutting a piece of plastic sheet for my 'wet out' table
Pre-cutting carbon fibre to size for my foil box reinforcement, directional carbon strip to reinforce length of board and main laminating sheet of carbon
Pre-cutting peel ply and breather to size (I used 2 in one material compoflex, but I won't use it again because I found it too hard to shape around complex curves of the board)
Getting vacuum bag all ready
The steps in this video:
Epoxy / microballons over board blank to 'seal' foam to reduce epoxy absorption (Nexts time I'll use Microlight rather than Microballoons and will probably let it go hard on the top, then sand, then re-apply light layer just before laminating)
Wet out carbon on table
Lay carbon on board, cut edges off wet (can reinforce areas with offcuts) and squeegee to board shape / snip bow/stern areas to conform to board
Laying peelply / breather (carefully cutting to get it to conform to edges)
Vacuum bag
