Hey! I've lived in Japan for 3 years now and I really wanted to get a pet, as I live on my own and wanted some company.

I was thinking of buying a Siamese fighting fish (Bettaベッタ in Japanese), but for the same price (or just a little extra), about $60 I could buy a Hamster. I bought a Djungarian hamster (Siberian Dwarf Hamster) called Luke, known here as a Jyangarian hamster (ジャンガリアンハムスター).

To buy the items for my hamster was easy, but I needed help from my friend who spoke a little bit more Japanese to find out if it was a girl or a boy and the rules. The items I bought for my hamster are below, but I hope to buy a bigger cage for him soon.

Rules for buying the hamster.
• Don't play with the hamster for a week/leave it be until it get's used to its new surroundings.
• If it dies within 24 hours you can take it back to the shop to get a refund?

I also bought a Marimo (毬藻) called "Mario", which is a type of moss found usually in Norway, Scotland and Hokkaido in Japan. It's quite a popular "pet" here in Japan, and all you need to do to look after it is replace the water once a week.

I bought my Marimo from Amazon and it came nicely packaged and with information of how to look after it (in Japanese)
