This report from SFB television sheds light on the desolate state of the Berlin S-Bahn in West Berlin in the early 1980s and the Berlin Senate's ambitious plans to reorganize the rail network. While the network in East Berlin remained indispensable, it was radically cut back in West Berlin - the transport value here was almost zero.
Graphics are used to illustrate the planned development of the rail network. The modernization of 150 kilometers of track with around 70 stations would cost at least 2 billion euros, but the question of where the necessary money would come from remains unanswered.
