SEZ sports and recreation centre in East Berlin 1981 | Leisure in the GDR, Friedrichshain
This film from 1981 provides an insight into the former sports and recreation centre in East Berlin, the SEZ in the Friedrichshain district. It was the most modern and important leisure centre in the GDR.
Various areas of the SEZ are presented in detail here. A model provides an overview of the entire site before the camera explores the interior. The highlights of the SEZ include a modern bowling alley, a ballet and gymnastics hall, a versatile sports and ice rink and an impressive swimming and diving pool. The Berliners were particularly excited about the innovative wave pool, which provided a special bathing experience.
Visitors can access the selected area of the SEZ via the turnstile using their ticket token. There they can expect fun and games as well as relaxation.
