Aayyy! Now this is one i didn't think i'd finish, but here we are!
I started this one on a whim on some night 2 years ago, i think. I've actually been wanting to edit with this song ever since i first heard it 5 years ago! I had even started a YGO edit with this song prior to this one, but both this one and that one went into complete purgatory. As for this one - for the longest time, i had set the ''sugar or spice'' clips with the text and the little zoom ins and outs, i had overlays, and eventually i added the flickers there. That was it. Every now and then i tried to come back to this edit to add something, but i somehow felt intimidated by the effects i had already added. I added some more little clips two years ago, and tried to remind myself in my markers that i don't need to focus so hard on whether or not it looks good - i can just create. Aaaand that's where this project stood, until just 2 days ago.
This is one of the projects that helped me conquer editing burnout! I won't push myself too hard for future projects, just in case - but this one actually felt like a lot of fun to edit. I still really enjoyed making all the MEP parts that i have so far this year, and participating in the MEPs i've joined, but at a certain point, theeeeyy really piled up and, together with what felt like never-ending uni assignments, i felt really tired ;w;
What really helped me is thinking outside of the box when making this, and not worrying much about whether or not this looks similar to my previous work or not! Just purely allowing myself to go ''hey what if i try this, or that? i don't think i've ever used this effect before- YO WHAT IS THAT-'' and so on c:
From there, i kinda completely vibed and let instinct carry me! I wanted to focus on a grainy, sugary sweet yet dark atmosphere. Text looking like it came from a magazine, monitor camera recording or analog VHS recording. Perhaps a recording that is severely damaged and offset.
And in terms of clips, i wanted to focus on Sebastian's devilish and scheming side!
In terms of the overall style, i would call this heavy typography-styled c: I had tons and tons of fun making the text, it felt sooo good to experiment and regain so much joy for playing around with typography!
Oh! i also tried a new program for this video to aid in the creation of the VHS look - NTSCQT by JargeZ on Github. It's a VHS simulation program and i love how heckin' accurately it depicts the colors and compression! Massive shoutout to SolarisFox for showing me and others this one c:
Oh and how could i forget? The main reason i even continued this Particular project, and not another one that i started this year, is BC OF SEASON 4 OF BLACK BUTLER, BABEEEYYY!! ;DDD XD GOD i feel so excited to eventually catch up in watching Black Butler enough to get to season 4, the artstyle and animation is just STUNNING UWU currently still in the process of reading the manga tho, so i'm like, all over the place in terms of plot progress!
I'm overall super proud of this whole result, and i'm glad i was able to make this! If i had to name one thing that could be improved - in retrospect, i'm not sure if quite this much flickering was necessary. But i still feel happy with this work ^^
Well then! That shall be all for now, i hope y'all enjoy this, and have a lovely day/night! 💖 c:
