Awakening to the Bite of Knowledge
In Awakening for Real, what are we actually awakening to?
The biblical story of Adam provides an apt metaphor.
Like Adam, having eaten the fruit of the tree of knowledge, we are now experiencing the fruits of our own choices and knowledge.
The fact is we can only perceive a minuscule fraction of the whole and filter what we do perceive through our minds, personalities, emotions and beliefs.
In the context of the law of cause and effect, the personal and global challenges we now and have always faced then make perfect sense.
Can we really be surprised that our reliance on knowledge given our inherent and learned limitations is precisely what is holding us back from effectively meeting so many personal and global challenges?
We instead consume ourselves with the devil in the detail, as in the German proverb, failing to realise that such knowledge offers a poor tool for us humans to stay safe through control.
The problem is not knowledge but our capacity and the lifeless machines we create to handle it.
This dramatically and disastrously becomes apparent in our resistance to thinking and perceiving of our whole world at every level, body, Earth and universe, a place where everything is interconnected, interrelated and interdependent.
To assert ourselves, let go and move on, we can and must accept without guilt that our choices have helped create many of the problems we deal with personally and in the world each day.
This seems hard to do in an emotionally driven culture and civilisation of our own creation which actively distracts, dulls and seeks to overwhelm us from being awakened and aware which are key to understanding and taking charge of our lives.
Returning to simplicity is an empowering something we can do to un-dull ourselves and nurture personal awareness.
This something we can and must do as the effects of our actions, like climate change and ill health, threaten to overwhelm us.
The time is right to take positive action.
