Narvik is a town in Norway, located above the Arctic Circle, in the county of Nordland. It was founded in 1902 in connection with the development of the railway link to the Swedish mines in the town of Kiruna. The town became an important port for the export of iron ore.
Narvik was the site of a strategically important battle during World War II. In April 1940, the town became the scene of a battle between German and Allied forces, including Norwegian, British, French, and Polish troops.
Today, Narvik is a center for tourism and winter sports, offering visitors scenic views, ski resorts, and historical museums.
