The Heart of the Firebird Returns! | Engine Reseal & Reassembly | Episode 14
After a busy summer and a major garage update (saying goodbye to the Camaro!), we are back in the garage and laser-focused on the '76 Firebird. Instead of a full machine-shop rebuild, we made the executive decision to perform a high-quality "Refresh and Reseal" on the original 350 V8.
In this episode, we tackle the critical seals, upgrade to a modern rear main seal, and transform the look of the engine with the correct 1975-76 Pontiac Blue.
Key moments in this build:
• The "BOP" Upgrade: Installing a modern two-piece rear main seal from BOP Engineering to replace the leaky old rope seal.
• Oil System Refresh: Swapping out the clogged oil pump and installing a new timing chain for better reliability.
• The Clean Up: Using "the bomb" (Easy Off oven cleaner) to strip decades of grease off the block.
• The "One-Piece" Secret: Using a steel-impregnated Moroso oil pan gasket to ensure a leak-free bottom end.
• Painting the Block: The satisfying transformation from bare metal to factory-correct Pontiac Blue.
