Cleaning a Half-Century of Grime! | Pontiac 350 V8 Deep Clean | Episode 6
The engine is out of the '76 Firebird, and it is filthy. In this episode, we’re moving the 350 V8 onto the engine stand for a serious deep clean. We’re using everything from putty knives and drill brushes to Super Clean and a pressure washer to get this block ready for teardown.
What we tackle in this episode:
• The "Gunk" Factor: Scraping off layers of baked-on oil and grease that have been collecting since the mid-70s.
• Freeze Plug Discovery: Digging into the block to remove rusted-out expansion plugs and flushing out old rust particles.
• Transmission Troubles: Checking on the TH350—it’s leaking fluid and needs a new mount, so we’re planning a full pull-out soon.
• Satisfying Results: A two-phase cleaning process (Super Clean soak followed by a high-pressure wash) to reveal the original casting details.
• Organized Mess: Setting up the Harbor Freight engine stand and drip pan to keep the garage floor (mostly) clean.
