Hey folks! This is my summary of week 6 here in #Seattle and Flatiron School's Data Science #Bootcamp!
There were 3 photos that I liked from week 5! Well, non family related photos. First, I liked this sunset hued photo of the Westin hotel in downtown Seattle. I'll be honest, I don't think this is portfolio worthy, but I really liked the color and light in this. The sparse hotel lights, reflected candy colors, and different levels of light intensity just spoke to me. Also, this photo reminds me to try to get outside more often! I had barely enough time to see this, swap lenses to my super tele, and get a few frames as I had just left campus right before sunset. May also be a reminder to not depend so much on sky quality predictor apps since they've missed a few decent sunsets so far.
My second favorite photo was this black and white one of a river in Mt Rainier National Park. This was at Narada Falls, but isn't actually Narada Falls. Instead, on the way back to the car, I sensed a photographer's S curve in the small river feeding the falls. I stopped on the bridge, took out the tripod and super telephoto lens, and got this! It's pretty…cliché, stereotypical, banal, etc for photographers to do long exposures of S-curves in water but whatever, I liked it. And it's different from normal landscape shots at Rainier.
My favorite photo from week five was this one outside the original Starbucks location. Trivia: I was told this isn't actually the original Starbucks because the original one actually burned down. Anyway, I liked this one because I felt like it really showed the chaos that happens outside that Starbucks. I've seen the line go for two blocks in the middle of a hot day. As such, I believe whichever Starbucks employees work here definitely should get paid more. On the day I got this photo, I even saw one woman try to cut the entire line.
The Starbucks employee politely stopped her and said "I'm sorry, ma'am, but there's a line that you have to wait in."
Narcissist: "No, it's ok because I only want to go in, get a photo, and leave. I'll only be like 12 seconds."
Starbucks employee: "Ok, but you still have to wait."Narcissist: "I don't think you understand, I'll be really quick."Starbucks employee: "I don't think you understand that I'm here for fire safety and to prevent customers from getting into fights."
Narcissist: "FINE I'll get in line"
Ok, that was photos, now how was class? For week six, we did a lot of statistics and probability. It feels weird to say this about a coding boot camp, but we didn't actually do a lot of coding! Instead, this week, we did more logic arrangement and thinking about how to set up tests and how to extract meaning from things like conditional probability and Bayes theorem. Actually a fun week considering how worried I was about probability and stats. On the test, I only missed 1-2 problems because I mixed up set notation! Oh well, haha.
For fun exploration this week, I mostly went back to Pike Place and walked around downtown to try to catch different moments. Nothing too unique or special by myself. But we did have a mini high school reunion with Meng and Mike! We went to the barbeque place Wood Shop and it was great! Nice to see both of them and eat a lot of food, haha.
What will happen for week 7? Well, we were told that it's another project week! The end of module 3, so we'll be using more statistics and doing hypothesis testing for the project, I bet!
