2019.08.25 - Week 3 in Seattle
Hey folks! I just finished Week 3 in #Seattle at Flatiron School's Data Science Bootcamp. This week was very different from the previous two, and I'll explain why in this video.
My favorite photo from last week is likely the one I got from Skyview Observatory of Mount Rainier at sunset. This is an HDR photo and I liked the color of the sky with the clouds obscuring the base of Rainier. It reminds me that we're really in the shadow of Rainier here in Seattle but I never even notice until I get to the top of a skyscraper haha. Plus, having mostly cityscape brought that feeling out even more for me.
I also liked this one at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery on Pike, but I think I'm going to try again. The light there is hard to figure out…the interior has a very warm color tone, but blue hour outside made for odd mixed lighting. Plus, I want to see if I can get someone in a similar stride outside, but without cutting off the bottom of their feet.
Also, of course I like this abstract architectural one, but I think that's cheating: I usually like photos like these and want to try to see things differently!
For class this week, we had our first group projects! We had to use everything from the previous two weeks to try to make a price predicting model for houses in King County, WA based on one year of real sales data. I'll put a card here so you can see my exported HTML on my GitHub. I thought it was a really great experience! We got a more open ended project that required creative thought and usage of technical skill, plus we got to see what each of us is like in a group work setting.
And now for fun #travel stuff! I ordered gimbal and it arrived during Week 3! It's the Zhiyun Crane M2 and I've set it up for my Sony RX0II. I'll try to get more comfortable with it, but I used it at the Gum Wall. I also went back to the waterfront and tried to get some photos of the Great Wheel's lights reflected in the waves…but it'll take me a while to get a favorite photo from that…
Honestly, week three was pretty non eventful outside of class. The project was pretty draining and we all finished the week surprisingly tired. But on to week 4, when we start using SQL and other ways of obtaining the data we want to science!
