L: 1 Why formative assessment should be part of your daily schedule?
Dear Students, today I am going to discuss what is the education system in India. The whole system is limited by the examination system only, which is not more than a summative. assessment system. In a summative assessment, a course or a syllabus is taught to you for six months or for one year.
After that, an exam is conducted, and by this exam you are judged on where you stand in comparison with other students. Basically, your grading is done by this system- whether you are an intelligent or a duffer student. You are not gaining anything through this system, because you are not improving further, as you have studied for one year, and by the result of summative assessment, you are told about your ability and intelligence.
Like this, your that particular one year has passed away. So how can you benefit from this system? Opposite to this, there is another system that is used in most of the developed western countries, which is known as the Formative Assessment Education system. In this system, what so ever you study in your daily routine, at your school, or at your coaching center on a particular topic, you can come to know how much you have known and what you have not learned. out of that particular topic.
It can, also identify your weakness and fill up the gap in your knowledge instantly. You get help instantly and on the spot. If you get the same help on a daily basis, it will improve your pool of knowledge rapidly. If a plant is fed with proper water and fertilized while it is in a growing stage. It may turn into a healthy and big tree by itself only.
In the same way, when through this formative assessment you identify and fill up the gap in your knowledge on a daily basis, then you will get the fruit of success in your summative assessment.
