When we pulled up to Blacksmith Distilling we weren't sure what we were getting into. We had already been on a marathon of tasting and the prospect of a distillery with 18 (or more?) skus seemed like we might be drinking a lot of flavored options (in general, yuk). While Blacksmith did have a few flavored spirits under their label, we were blown away at the integrity of the product. We can't wait to showcase their honey whiskey and blueberry maple whiskey. That said, we decided to continue our gin journey on the show because if we didn't, this bottle would have been gone quick. Hell, it may already be gone. This gin has some really interesting things going on. Buttered popcorn mixed with a beet sweetness takes you on a walk through the garden. Leafy greens and earthy notes float just under that popcorn nose. On the taste, the butteriness stays, but takes a backseat to a hefty pepper spice, cilantro, and mint. Finally a finish of light olive oil smoothness syncs in perfectly with a lingering mineral note. Cheers!

You can call us Taste Buds or the Two Guys behind the counter, it doesn't matter to us. We are two guys from Missouri doing a Craft Beer Review and a Whiskey Review (or Whisky Review depending where you are from) with a drive to always Try Something New. We won't drive you crazy with snobby tasting notes that no one else will understand, just a general idea of what the beer or food tastes like. We want YOU to join us in trying exciting new things to open our minds, and pallets, to something different. So join Chris Horn and Lyal Strickland as we foray into some suds and grains and stumble all over ourselves trying to sound smarter than they really are. Some of the things we love to try are Scotch, Bourbon, Rum, Tequila, wine, and craft beer of all kinds. We argue between Stouts and Porters, IPA and Sour, Farmhouse and Lager. I'm sure there isn't anything we won't disagree about except that we like to try new stuff.
