The definitive paragraph uses contrasts to make a point or to develop an idea. This video deals with contrasting ideas, which most naturally express themselves in antitheses and in balanced sentences. They should be used sparingly, and their form of presentation varied.

The topic statement does not always give the exact content of the paragraph-idea.
Sometimes it may require merely a repetition in simpler terms or the use of synonymous expressions, since these are almost automatically resorted to when you are striving to make your exact meaning clear.
Sometimes it may be misunderstood- taken the wrong way- to include more or less than the writer intends.
Using this method of developing the paragraph, the writer will therefore define his meaning by limiting or expanding the content of the terms of the topic-statement, to the limits desired.
