One of the biggest struggles people with walking difficulties experience is not being able to stand up straight – an essential posture for walking well.
This trunk forward posture is due to overactive muscles in the chest, diaphragm, abdominals, and hip flexors AND weakness in the spine, glutes, and hamstrings.
AND WE CAN CORRECT THAT!
Here are the steps:
1. Massage the muscles in your pecs, diaphragm, and hip flexors.
2. Stretch the muscles in your pecs, diaphragm, and hip flexors.
3. Do 5-10 deep BELLY BREATHS.
4. Practice the staggered stance hip hinge (aka RDL) in this video.
As you do this drill focus on:
Straight spine
Abs pulled in
Pushing hips back
Pausing at the bottom and feeling the hamstring stretch
Driving hips forward to stand back up
Regain balance up top
When practiced correctly, this movement will improve walking balance, strength, and endurance.
