02: Programming Basics
Opinions are like you-know-what, but I think it’s important for you to know some of mine just so you know that a lot of people in this industry have opposing views. One of the biggest ones is how to mitigate which third-party programming you want to use. Basically, you can use whatever you would like, but I do warn to not skip over learning the underlying technologies. This would be the defining difference between making you a full-stack developer vs. a [program name] developer which may not be the same thing!
I talk about some terminology dealing with frameworks, libraries, package managers, cloud computing. My tutorials are shown mostly on mac computers. I do have some short screen grabs of some of the things I talk about from an old Windows 7 computer, but rest assured, most of everything in this series will use a linux server that we set up. You can then connect via Windows or mac, or even linux!
I talk a little bit about security, although there will be at least one entire video on security, but this video I bring up a couple real-world examples of things that had happened in my experience. I talk about how I’m not a huge fan of Docker and why - but if you [learn about it if you don’t know ahead of time] know about Docker and want to use it - more power to you!! It is neat.
Finally we start talking about some code structure and how strings are displayed in a couple languages (PHP and JavaScript specifically)!!
