How to Make a Game | Part One: Sound

As part of a series of videos exploring the games development process, we joined student Keir McNab in Abertay University's recording studio as he used some incredible tricks to turn random sounds (like a lettuce being crunched and a fizzed-up bottle of Pepsi being opened) into foley sound effects for a game.

Keir is the Sound Designer for Dare Academy team Pretty Interesting Experiences. They have created a Virtual Reality (VR) game called Sight Unseen. The innovative stealth actioner allows players to use each eye lens differently.

Dare Academy is a games design competition open to Abertay University students. Finalists create game prototypes with support from academics and expert industry mentors over an intense summer of industry-supported hot-housing.

In the video games, film and television industries; foley is the art of creating sound effects which mimic ambient noises, typically using a variety of objects and practical methods.
