The Colony
Director Jeff Renfroe (“Steve McQueen: King of Cool,” “One Point O”) impresses us in THE COLONY with visually stunning post-apocalyptic ice worlds. Atmospherically gripping, his sci-fi action film combines the best elements of THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, and THE THING, and also boasts a fantastic cast: including Laurence Fishburne (“Man of Steel,” “The Matrix”), Kevin Zegers (“Frozen,” “Dawn of the Dead”), and Bill Paxton (“Twister,” “Aliens”).
After the onset of a new ice age, the few survivors retreated to small underground colonies, of which only Colonies 5 and 7 remain inhabited. Colony 7, led by Briggs (Laurence Fishburne), continues to fight against the freezing cold, hunger, isolation, and disease. The precarious situation worsens when they receive an SOS signal from Colony 5, prompting Briggs to embark on a dangerous expedition there. His old comrade-in-arms, Mason (Bill Paxton), tries to dissuade him from risking the group's lives. As it turns out, with good reason: upon reaching their destination, they discover a far more inhuman and gruesome threat than they could ever have imagined...
