I'm working toward simplifying my teaching method as I produce these videos. I'm relatively new to YouTube. Each one contains more carefully detailed segments and written instructions. Layering pencil, colored pencil, and marker is the easiest method I've found in 20 years to get the value and color I want quickly, and I hope to share that with you. There are no paints to mix, no struggling to find the right shade of a color, no value drawings to begin with. By simply layering these media with pencil or pen, one after the other, either lightly sketching over an area, or opaquely, you can move toward the shade and color you want.. It takes looking carefully at your subject or reference photo and considering these questions: lighter? darker? what color am I seeing? How does this area compare with the one next to it?
With practice, you will learn to layer more quickly with each piece. Just have faith and keep moving!
In this video, I offer a shortcut to practicing with only colored pencil and acrylic marker. No need tdraw the image.. By printing a reference photo in grayscale, you can plunge right into practicing your layering techniques.
For those who wish to draw the image first, those steps are included as well.
My YouTube Page has several basic drawing tutorials to help you understand drawing shapes and giving them dimension by just using a pencil.

Please comment or subscribe if this video helps you!
Enjoy!
