Today we are go to show you how to use the free version of Morningstar to compare Net Profit Margins from the business you are thinking about investing in, to their key competitors.

This is one of the 30+ items that are on my Investment Checklist. I never analyze a potential investment without looking at Net Profit Margins and seeing how well those margins are compared to the top competitors of the business that I am analyzing.

Warren Buffett, the best value investor of all-time, says that we should invest in a company that is run by a competent management team and a company that has a competitive advantage, aka, a Moat.

A great way to do this is to compare net profit margins. If the company that we are researching has higher net profit margins than the competition, then it could be a sign that the management is running the business efficiently and the company may have a Moat...a competitive advantage.

This tool works great for comparing against companies that are within the same industry, regardless of their Market Cap.

Please subscribe to our channel and turn on notifications. I will be posting more quick and easy videos each week about the items that are on my Investment Checklist. As an investor, we need to put as many odds in our favor as possible, and one way to do that is to look at each criteria on the Investment Checklist. This process makes it very easy to repeat your winning investments and eliminate mistakes that cause losers.
