How to Cut (or Lengthen) PVC Pipes & Repair Drain Under Sink

1. wrap tape around the pipe to mark where to cut. You can just use a marker, but I prefer to use a tape because by cutting along the tape’s edge I can make a cut straight.
2. You can use a saw, like a hacksaw, to cut pvc pipe, but it’s quicker and easier using an oscillating tool.
3. After cutting, sand off the burrs so that the edges are smooth and then wipe away all the dust.
4. How to bond 2 PVC parts: First, apply primer to areas that going to get bonded. The primer helps clean and soften the PVC for the cement to do it’s job of bonding the 2 PVC parts together. The cement is an organic solvent mixture that in simple terms causes the PVC parts (such as a pipe and an adapter) to melt and fuse together.
5. How to bond 2 PVC parts: Then apply the cement over the primer.
6. Push in firmly and fit the 2 parts together.
7. Important: Turn one of the pieces a quarter turn.
8. Important: Then hold the pieces together for about 20-30 seconds.
How to add length to PVC pipe:
If you need to make an already installed PVC pipe longer, connect another pipe to it using a coupler and bond the pipes to the coupler.
