Addressing Socioeconomic Barriers in PhD Research
Academia is facing a crisis because of a lack of diversity of thought in PhD research caused by the fact that you need to be from a middle or high socioeconomic household/background to afford to study a PhD. Students from lower to mid income households are priced out of studying a PhD because they cannot afford it, and need to get into the job market sooner rather than later to support themselves financially as well as their families.
