There is a lack of diversity of thought in academia that needs to be addressed
Academia is facing a crisis because there is a lack of diversity of thought in research due to the fact that you need to be from a middle or high socioeconomic household/background to afford to study a PhD. Students from lower to mid income households are priced out of studying a PhD because they cannot afford it, and need to get into the job market sooner rather than later to support themselves financially as well as their families. Due to this lack of diversity of thought in academia, which includes socioeconomic diversity, the individuals who end up studying PhDs and conducting research have influence on the research that is carried out, and the direction in which academia moves forward. This is most likely the reason why it seems that most academics in university across the world have similar mindsets and ideas, and refuse to believe or accept a different thought process
