We must admit that we are losing the pricing race for building materials year after year “by one wicket.”
Not only do you have to do everything yourself, but the materials have more than doubled in price over the year, and the roof of the gazebo still needs to be covered.
...And so, the cheapest type of roof for a gazebo at the time of filming the video is slate.
For a roof measuring 4.5 m by 10.5 m, we will need 33 sheets of 8-wave slate costing $11 per piece.
Add in the cost of delivery, plus nails, plus rubber paint, and we get more than $400.
...I had to buy used slate for $1.25 apiece, installation estimate is attached.
Since the roof for the gazebo was covered with a rather ancient material, some adjustments had to be made during installation.
It was necessary to sort the slate by width, since some sheets were 5 whole waves wide.
Next, it was necessary to take into account that the corners of the slate were chipped from the previous installation, and our roof for the gazebo should have no through holes.
New cuts were made with a grinder.
Also, due to the fragility of the material, holes for nails in the slate roof for the gazebo had to be pre-drilled.
For the same reason, it was dangerous to walk on the flooring, which caused a number of inconveniences during installation, but we did this consciously.
I also had to paint the slate sheets on the underside in advance, but this is not necessary.
Otherwise, a standard do-it-yourself shed roof for a slate gazebo was completed in 4 days without any problems.
