Japan's New Prime Minister is Struggling
The Ruling Party elected Shigeru Ishiba as their new Party President, meaning Japan just got a new Prime Minister. Although a new face usually means a fresh start, Prime Minister Ishiba is already struggling. In this video, we will review the two main reasons why the new Prime Minister is struggling. We will also review the 2024 Liberal Democratic Party Inner-Party Presidential Election Results and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's background to fully understand why both his Party and the general public are skeptical of the new Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is the 102nd Prime Minister post-World War II and he is generally considered a moderate-liberal and the "opposition party within the Party." He made 4 attempts to become Prime Minister, and on his fifth try, he finally got the throne. His election was a surprise because it was common knowledge that his fellow lawmakers disliked or distrusted Ishiba. While it is generally understood that Koizumi or Takaichi may have the edge, the results surprised many as an "outsider" won the Presidency.
