This webinar is designed to discuss current trends of flow cytometry technologies with regard to a variety of experimental processes in the laboratory. Using a complex technology such as flow cytometry effectively demands attention to a number of instrument and experimental design issues. Fortunately, there are many resources available to assist users in understanding the limitations and opportunities of the technology. In this presentation, Drs. J. Paul Robinson (Purdue University) and John P. Nolan (La Jolla Bioengineering Institute) will discuss some of the calibration and standardization approaches that will ensure that the experimental data obtained is accurate and readily interpreted by other researchers. In addition, expanding assays from a few tubes to large plate arrays demands a rethinking of the experimental design, execution and data analysis. Finally, with the increased use of cell sorting, many users may not be aware of the important issues involved in appropriate and acceptable safety involved in sorting viable human cells, or cells containing infectious agents. Essential elements of each of these topics will be discussed and additional resources available to flow cytometry users will be highlighted.
