John Hlophe formally removed from the bench
President Cyril Ramaphosa has formally removed John Hlophe and Nkola Motata from the bench. This comes after MPs voted in favour of their impeachment last month, making them the first judges in democratic South Africa to be impeached. They were found guilty of gross misconduct by the Judicial Service Commission for different cases. Hlophe was accused of trying to influence Justices in a corruption case relating to former president Jacob Zuma, while Motata was convicted of drunk driving.
