Some of the bits and pieces about Taijiquan and internal arts in general, from what we explored this weekend at #ParkLife with my buddy Adrian 😁😎 Thank you Adrian for sharing your experience of what I was doing! Hope it helps some folks think outside the box. Mind is like a parachute, it only works as intended, when open 😉
Anyway, to cut a long story short, there is no "one ring to rule them all" or the most truest, oldest, most authenticest, most naturalistique etc., etc. These views are held by those who do not understand the pieces that are put together differently, by different arts, traditions and practitioners, with their consequent pros and cons related to different use cases. How adept a practitioner is at making their particular engine work, how widely applicable it is to the intended use cases and does it help make you a healthier, more well adjusted person is where the value is at, in my not so humble opinion. It is not about secret movements or forms or acrobatics, can your teacher transfer their skillset to you? This is where the buck stops, no?
That said...
Rebounding Jin of Taijiquan, largely based around the mechanisms that have evolved to reprocess the impact of the gait, into the next stride, is often considered the most basic and a foundational movement and power mechanism in the study of the technology. For example, Bajiquan uses this mechanism by stomping the foot on the ground. What this is the primary mechanism of what Chen Man Ching taught. And his students like Huang Sheng Shyan used this primary mechanism with a more developed and full (achieved most likely through his esoteric practice, or the "hidden tradition") Lower Dantien. The verse that everyone parrots, from the classics in various different translations, refer to this basic, foundational movement and power mechanism. You know, the "rooted in the feet, generated from the legs, controlled by the waist, shaped by the hands..." blah blah!
But there is a LOT more to Taijiquan and Internal Kung Fu movement and power!
For example, this is NOT the primary power mechanism of say, Yang Cheng Fu Large Frame, YCF Large Frame actually generates power from the Lower Basin and transmits SIMULTANEOUSLY to both hands and feet, while the above mechanism of Rebounding Jin is passive (works with Uprooting Jin).
Anyway...
Please enjoy, responsibly!
