Chick Corea's legacy with 7x Grammy Winner Brian Vibberts
The jazz genre is a little unusual for DHM, however we love the music and were deeply saddened to learn of Chick Corea's passing in February 2021 from a rare form of cancer. Our friend Brian Vibberts was Chick's Mixing Engineer on over 30 "disks". Chick said "It’s always fun and a pleasure working with Brian. He has such a good rapport with the music I make — he instantly knows how to make it sound great."
Chick Corea had 67 Grammy nominations and 25 wins throughout his life. He is the number one jazz artist for Grammy wins and fifth out of all genres. Chicks first Grammy performance was at the 2004 awards where he performed Times Like These with the Foo Fighters.
In addition to his years of work with Chick Corea, Brian Vibberts has recorded and mixed with the world's top Music Producers - Dr. Dre, George Martin, Phil Ramone, Jack Douglas, Daniel Lanois, David Foster, Walter Afanasieff, Babyface, Nile Rodgers, Al Schmitt, Tom Lord-Alge, Arif Mardin, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Tommy LiPuma, Trevor Rabin and Bruce Swedien. It was Mr. Swedien who recommended Brian to mix half of Herbie Hancock's album “Gershwin’s World.” The album won four out of the five GRAMMYS, including Jazz Album of the Year.
Winner of 7 Grammy Awards, Recording Engineer Brian Vibberts, aka Dr. Vibb! Brian's skills in the studio has contributed to over 270 Grammy nominations and 77 Grammy wins! His credits include Elton John, Green Day, Jay-Z, Billy Joel, the Dave Matthews Band, Tony Bennett, Mariah Carey, Sting, Mick Jagger, Fiona Apple, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Celine Dion, David Lee Roth, Tim McGraw, Lauryn Hill, Kirk Hammet (Metallica), Jewel and Bruce Springsteen. He also worked closely in the studio with Michael Jackson for an entire year on the HIStory album. During that time he only had seven days off. Brian was also the first Engineer to mix in Studio D at United Recording Studio in Los Angeles.
Brian is also involved with The Element, a Songwriting and Production team with partners Nikhil Korula and Dimitri Cerny. The trio wrote Start It Up, the opening track for Ziggy Marley’s 2016 Grammy winning Best Reggae Album. It was also The Element's first Grammy Certificate.

It couldn’t have been done without this high caliber of teamwork.” Legendary Recording Engineer, Bruce Swedien: “Brian is the one of the best engineers that I’ve worked with.”
