Oh, Charles Dickens. You really couldn't resist throwing a little Victorian melodrama into A Tale of Two Cities, could you? Like that scene in Book 3, Chapter 3--the one with the oh-so-threatening shadow? Yeah, a bit much for us modern types. But we'll forgive you because it makes your second motif--shadows--that much more obvious.
