"Black Dove, White Raven" by Elizabeth Wein. 60second Book Review by Jenny Sawyer. http://goo.gl/rv33x8
In "Black Dove, White Raven" by Elizabeth Wein, young Emilia and Teo live on an idyllic coffee plantation in 1930s Ethiopia. Em’s mom is a pilot, and there’s nothing these two adventurous teens would like to do more than get up in a plane themselves. But Em’s mom is haunted by the freak accident that killed Teo’s mother, so she keeps her kids on the ground.
But things are changing in Ethiopia. War is coming. And as the threats from Italy grow from murmurs into rumbles, Em and Teo’s wish is finally granted: They will learn how to be pilots. Off the ground, Em’s mama thinks, her children are sure to be safe. But in a time of war, staying aloft is harder than any of these characters could imagine.
