Friday Night Funkin' (often abbreviated to FNF) is an upcoming open-source rhythm game first released as a demo in 2020 for a game jam. The game is being developed by a small group called The Funkin' Crew Inc., with the four founding members being the Newgrounds users Cameron "ninjamuffin99" Taylor, David "PhantomArcade" Brown, Isaac "Kawai Sprite" Garcia, and evilsk8r. The game shares some gameplay features with Dance Dance Revolution and PaRappa the Rapper and borrows aesthetic influences from Flash games. The game has been credited with driving users back to Newgrounds, a site whose popularity peaked in the early 2000s.
The game mainly revolves around the player character, Boyfriend, who must defeat a variety of characters in singing and rapping contests in order to continue dating his love interest, Girlfriend. Gameplay revolves around hitting notes with timed inputs while avoiding running out of health for the duration of the song.
Lord X is the main antagonist of OTH305's Sonic (PC Port), a game that reimagines the original version of Sonic.EXE. A remake created by John-Kun and the PC-Port team is currently in development. He is the main antagonist of the mod, meeting Boyfriend after their encounter in another mod, and he's not gonna let up to the blue haired rapper this time.
"Sonic" (also known metatextually as 2017 X or simply 2017) is a take on JC-The-Hyena's 2017 reboot of Sonic.exe initially created on May 18th, 2022 by JoeDoughBoi as a concept doodle. JoeDoughBoi gave ownership of the character to Raven, who established many of the character's details, before eventually leaving him in the hands of Alepie due to her own personal disinterest in making a full narrative for him. This character is the official retake of the Sonic.exe 2017 reboot, however, the until the time comes for his story, Broken_face, to come to fruition, this character is delegated to the official Sonic.exe Friday night funkin' mod, Sonic Legacy.
"Sonic", also known as 2017, is a retake on JC the Hyena's 2017 remake of Sonic.exe owned by Raven. He is a delusional entity who genuinely believes to be Sonic the Hedgehog himself. He is intended to be an opponent in the song against Tails, known as Subterfuge.

Sonic.Exe, also known today as Xenophanes, is a demonic entity very obsessed with Sonic, idolizing him and taking his appearance. He first debuted in his eponymous creepypasta in the year 2011, where he cold-bloodedly kills Tails, Knuckles, and Eggman, while mentally torturing players (Kyle and Tom) who play "his" game. He gained even more prominence with a game made in 2013 by MY5TCrimson.
Vs. Sonic.EXE is a mod. The main opponent of the mod is the titular character from the Sonic.EXE series, but it also features many other horror-oriented characters from other official and fan-made Sonic media, including Sonic (PC PORT), Sonic CD, Sunky, Sonic R, Sonic Shorts, and Sonic the Comic.
DX is a red virus that resides in the Sonic Classic Collection copy for the Nintendo DS, disguised as Sonic the Hedgehog using the sprite from Sonic. DX invades a gameplay of an unknown player in a Sonic 2 Knuckles "lock-on" mode, although the game does not support Sonic 1 sprite type, DX uses and corrupts it while killing Knuckles and Tails in front of the player.
Mediocrity is a mod created and owned by ThatDudeGrinch. Currently, it features No More Innocence, an EXE created by DuhDumbie, as the main opponent of the mod.
