Choosing the right flower pot is the key to a healthy growth of the plant. It is not only reservoir for the orchid, but a support as well.
Flower pot for the orchid has to be:
1. Transparent.
So the roots could receive enough light to perform photosynthesis, that is important for development of the plant.
2. Made from plastic.
Orchid is a water-loving plant, and if flowerpot is made from clay, moisture easily evaporates. Furthermore, plastic is durable and lightweight.
3. Equipped with a drainage system that provides aeration of the substrate,
enrichment of roots with oxygen and their equal drying along the length.
4. Doubled. This, firstly, ensures that there is always an air gap between the bottom and the surface. And secondly, with double flower pot the most effective for orchids watering method becomes easier and tidied.
Arte-dea from Santino meets all these requirements.
Thanks to capillary forces, water from the reservoir freely rises through the drainage holes to the roots of the plant.
When is it necessary to repot an orchid?
1. Over time, the substrate becomes depleted, compacted and can't support the root system.
2. Darkening of the roots. Wilted orchid.
3. Distinct smell of rot, dampness and mold.
4. The pot is too small fot your plant.
The end of flowering period is the most favorable time for repotting
when new leaves and roots start their growht.
It is recommended to repot the orchid when the roots are well dried
extract the flower from the pot. If it fails, carefully cut the pot.
Clean the roots from substrate.
Thoroughly inspect the plant and trim off any dead or damaged roots.
Yellow leaves and dried stem should also be carefully trimmed.
Apply some activated charcoal over cuttings.
Set the orchid aside for 1-2 hours.
Pour a layer of substrate into the inner pot.
Select only the largest fractions of the substrate.
Place your plant into the flower pot
Use the stake to support the plant if needed.
Evenly spread the substrate among roots
Add more substrate
The growth point must be barely covered with substrate.
Slightly compress the soil, make sure, that the plant is well kept in a flowerpot.
It is important to firmly fix the plant after planting.
Put the flower in a shaded place with t 22-25 degrees.
Watering is allowed in 5 days after the repotting.
Use soft water, t 35-40 degrees.
Feeding is allowed in 3-4 weeks after repotting.
