The bottom watering
Because of frequent watering the soil sticks and compacts, thereby deprives the roots of the oxygen they need.
The bottom-watering system allows to avoid this.
It is carried out not from above, but in the saucer (water reservoir) of the planter.
Due to the bottom-watering system:
Underground parts of the plant get the required amount of oxygen
the roots get the optimum amount of water and don’t rot
the entire root ball remains loose and doesn’t dry up or swamp
useful minerals do not wash away from the soil
trying to achieve more water, roots grow up and get stronger
even damaged or over dried plants have chance to be regenerated
Bottom-watering system is used for:
water loving plants
plants in friable(light) soil- gardenias, hydrangeas, gloxinias, fuchsias, etc
tropical plants – fittonias, begonias, ferns, azaleas, etc.
over dried plants with dehydrated roots
soil fertilizing or disinfection. Just add chemical fertilizers instead of water in the saucer (water reservoir)

The process of repotting plants needing this kind of watering hardly differs from the usual one:
Remove plastic wrap from the cartridges and install them into the pot
instead of drainage cartridges the natural gravel also can be used
pour the first layer of the gravel
add a layer of soil which shouldn’t be much since you need to leave enough space for the root ball
place the plants directly into the flower pot, try not to disturb the roots
fill the remaining place with soil, make sure the growing point is not covered with soil
slightly compress
Pour a layer of mulch around the plants. As well as drainage, mulch is required for the bottom-watering system. It maintains the optimum temperature of the soil and prevents the evaporation of moisture.
Water your plant in the classical way (from above) during the first two weeks
Using the bottom watering don’t forget time to time water your plants from above, to wash away the accumulated mineral salts.
