Wick watering system
🌸 For the proper and healthy growth of the plant in the flowerpot, it is important to keep the optimal ratio of the substrate, water and air.
🌸 And the most common recommendation for indoor flowers care is regular but moderate watering.
🌸 Wick watering system fulfills these requirements.
🌸 A wick system is a method of watering that uses synthetic string for absorbing water and feeding it up to the plant.
🌸 The wick system is used for medium-sized plants planted in light soil mixtures, like:
• Saintpaulia (African violets)
• Gloxinia
• Achimenes
• Episcia
• Primulina
• Streptocarpus
• Orchids
• small unfruitful plants (basil, salad leaves)
🌸 Wick watering system advantages:
• permanently well moisturized roots;
• Strong and developed root system;
• Fast growth of the plants;
• Abundant bloom;
• The need for watering is significantly reduced up to 1-2 times a week.
🌸 There are many examples of homemade wick watering systems. Most of them work, but look unattractive and, moreover, are an additional source of mess.
-It is much more aesthetic and practical to use special flowerpots with self-watering wick system.

🍃 For this type of watering, loose, water- and air-permeable soil mixtures, are used.
🍃 Take in equal parts:
• vermiculite;
• perlite (use a respirator when working with perlite);
• peat soil.
🍃 Slightly moist vermiculite and perlite and mix all three ingredients thoroughly.
🍃 Water your plant before planting to moisturize the root ball.
🍃 Pour the first layer of soil, leaving enough space for the root ball.
🍃 If it is possible, clean the roots of the plant from the old potting mix.
🍃 Place the plant into the flowerpot and fill the remaining space with soil.
Do not compress the soil!
🍃 Place the plant for two weeks in the greenhouse after repotting in order to strengthen the roots and enable them to absorb water through the wick.
🍃 In about 2 months, start feeding your plant. Add fertilizers according the recommendations directly into the pot.
🍃 Don’t forget from time to time to wash the flowerpot and change nutrient fluid. It prevents the development of plant diseases and the appearance of parasites.
