Although the lyrics of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star come from an early-19th-century English poem called “The Star”, written by Jane Taylor, the melody is borrowed from a French song called “Ah! vous dirai-je, maman”, dating back to 1761. Variations of the tune are also used for "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and the "Alphabet Song."
