In this video, I delve into the creation of destructible blockers for my Unreal Engine 5 game. Join me as I explore the mechanics, sound design, visuals, and the creative process behind these elements. Initially experimenting with clay pots and Collectibles, I encountered challenges with geometry collections and sound integration. Despite these hurdles, I developed a functional destructible mechanic that led me to the concept of destructible blockers.

These blockers serve a dual purpose in my game: obstructing pathways and disabling machines. Players must strategically break these blockers to progress, adding an engaging element of interaction and satisfaction to the gameplay. The visual design of the blockers was inspired by organic growth like mold or fungus, leading to a unique and immersive appearance.

To achieve the desired look, I meticulously crafted the mesh using simple spheres and optimized geometry for performance. The material used for the blockers creates a fossilized, moldy texture that blends seamlessly with the game environment. After destruction, broken pieces dissolve gradually using opacity masks for a smooth transition.

While this devlog may not cover all details like particles, it offers insight into the creative process behind developing game elements. Your feedback and support are invaluable as I continue to refine and enhance my project. Stay tuned for more updates and consider wishlisting "Circulation" on Steam to support indie game development.

Thank you for watching and let's keep pushing the boundaries of game design together!
