Every year on March 24, people commemorate Lipoprotein(a) Awareness Day. The day was launched by the Family Heart Foundation to increase public awareness of increased levels of lipoprotein(a). The day draws attention to lipoprotein(a), an underappreciated contributor to cardiovascular disease. Globally, up to 20% of individuals have elevated lipoprotein(a) levels, which raise the risk of stroke and heart attack. Lipoprotein(a) has an ideal range of less than 14 mg/dL and a high range of more than 50 mg/dL. Individuals who have 14–30 mg/dL are deemed to be borderline risk, while those who have 31–50 mg/dL are deemed to be high risk.
