Roads in Montevideo were flooded this Friday due to heavy rain that started in the afternoon. The Uruguayan Meteorological Institute issued an orange warning for the storm and vehicle traffic remained disrupted. According to forecasts, the current conditions affecting the Uruguayan capital and other regions in the southwest of the country will repeat themselves in the coming hours. Especially in the north, on the coast of the Uruguay River, where several areas have been flooded for weeks and more than three thousand people have been displaced by the floods. Director of Meteorology, Néstor Santayana, stated that this phenomenon had been predicted and that there would be a cold wave preceded by a storm. He also confirmed that temperatures would drop at the weekend. Meanwhile, the Uruguayan Meteorological Institute Inumet announced the highest rainfall accumulation, between 10,00 and 16,00 this Friday, according to the department. The entity recorded 80 millimeters of rain falling in Prado in Montevideo, followed by Ismael Cortinas in Flores with 79 mm of rain, then Cardona in Soriano with 66 mm of rain, in Kiyú in San José with 64 mm of rain, in San Jacinto Canelones with rainfall of 50 mm.
