California Tsunami! Big Wave, Hitting Ventura and Sinking!
Video captured the terrifying moment beachgoers were hit by huge waves in Ventura on Thursday. The incident came as local residents were warned about large waves hitting the Southern California coastline this week, The violent waves drowned people at Pierpont Beach on Seaward Avenue around 11 am. The area was hit hardest by what the National Weather Service called extraordinary wave energy. A witness, Colin Hoag, recorded video of the blast wave with his cellphone. When water suddenly flooded the observation zone, both people and vehicles were immediately swept away. Beach visitors were seen running frantically to save themselves. The raging water shattered the windows of beachfront buildings and nearby hotels in its path of destruction. Nine people were rushed to hospital by paramedics. Eyewitnesses said some of the victims had broken bones while others were slammed into road poles. Guests staying at a beachside hotel were also among those injured. Two victims remained in critical condition on Thursday evening.
