Join me for a walking tour around The O2 Arena and the North Greenwich area.

The O2 Arena, initially known as the Millennium Dome, is a prominent feature of London's skyline and a major cultural venue located in the North Greenwich area on the Greenwich Peninsula.

The structure was originally constructed as the Millennium Dome, which opened its doors on January 1, 2000. It was one of the UK's projects to celebrate the new millennium and included an exhibition to mark the occasion.

The dome, designed by architect Richard Rogers, is one of the largest of its type in the world, with a diameter of 365 meters and a height of 52 meters (symbolic of the days and weeks in a year).

After the millennium exhibition concluded in December 2000, the dome underwent extensive redevelopment and was rebranded as The O2 Arena in 2007, named after its primary sponsor, the telecommunications company O2. The redevelopment turned the venue into a multifunctional entertainment complex featuring an indoor arena, a music club, a cinema, an exhibition space, and various bars and restaurants.

Beyond The O2 Arena, the North Greenwich area has seen the development of new residential units, commercial spaces, and public amenities, including parks and artistic installations. It's part of a broader urban development strategy to revitalize the Thames Gateway.
