Editorial Retouch From Start To Finish, Part 7 - Dodging and Burning

Dodging and Burning has been around for a long time. Long before Photoshop was even an idea. But the principles of manipulating the light after the fact, haven’t changed much. The tools have certainly become more versatile and easier to use but the underlying principles of painting with light, have not change. And these principles, plus the new tools are important part of any serious retoucher’s workflow. In this episode we will cover the basics and focus also on the more global level Dodging and Burning or as some people call them, sculpting or carving the image with light. Unfortunately the unavoidable side effect of Dodging and Burning is color shift in places where we painted. To deal with that problem I will show you one other tool I use all the time to fix this problem. To automate many of the tedious task I will also show you how you can record this as Photoshop actions.
