CHALLENGES IN ASPHALT MIX DESIGN
In this module we are tryin to explain the challenges one can face during the mix design of Asphalt mix. One key are to focus on is absorption of bitumen by aggregate and the other is failure to check the mix for performance test before actually laying it in the field. In real sense the mixes which are designed in the laboratory considering all the requirements given in the orange book like stability, flow, VMA and air voids we take it for granted that the performance of the mix is ensured. There is no contractual requirement demanding to check the mixes for performance before actually being laid in the field. Though we have the facilities to check but we fail to check and wait for the consequences.
