Online Lesson Snippet - Improvisation - Dorian "So What"
There are MANY ways to work on improvisation with Online Students. This particular student is more of a Visual learner and in this lesson we are working on phrasing. You don't need all of this virtual madness happening. :) but it does help for certain students, especially when they go back to review their video-recorded lessons.
In this lesson, we focused on 'notes of emphasis' to build around in Dorian. Using the Miles Davis tune 'So What' and just focusing on Eb Dorian in this segment, I highlighted the 2 & 6, which bring out the quintessential sound of Dorian.
Having certain notes of emphasis to build around allows you to focus on phrasing rather then 'searching'.
