Russell Contradicts Hamilton’s Suggestion That He Got Lucky

After the race in Jeddah, Hamilton had made the following statement which led many to believe that he was suggesting that Russell had gotten lucky

“There was like a 50/50 choice [for a certain aspect of the car setup]. I chose one way, he chose another”

“More often than not, where he went is the wrong one, but it just happened to work”

Russell responded to this by explaining why it wasn’t luck

“I don’t think there’s any luck in it at all. I think it’s down to the preparation you put in before the event”

“The changes we made overnight, I knew that was going to be the right direction with the work we did with the team”

“And I believed it was going to be better than the setup that Lewis opted for. I think everybody’s got different preferences”

Lewis has since clarified his statements

“I want to reiterate how great a job George did on the weekend”

“I think the thing I was commenting on is that there’s one specific thing that you can change in the suspension that you have to do over Friday night”

“I’ve done it in the past, sometimes it hasn’t worked, sometimes it has, and it worked great for George and he did a great job.”

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri stated “yeah, very, very special, obviously to race in my home country and also hometown as well”

“I played Aussie Rules footy and cricket on some of the ovals that are now the paddock”

“Hopefully, we can just have a clean race and my front wing doesn’t wipe out Lando, this time. And we’ll see what we can do”

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc highlighted that “for this year, [they] are not coming into this race in the same situation as last year”

“Clearly, our performance is not as good as last year”

“But we are working massively to try and come back at the front”

For Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, “obviously it feels good, feels nice to reach [100 podiums in F1]”

“But when you are in a Championship, you’re not really concentrated on that”

“We will try to be more focused on the box this weekend and avoid any penalty”

Defending world champion Max Verstappen feels that “Fernando should have won, already, a lot more races then he has done”

“He deserves a lot more. So yeah, I mean, I would be quite happy to see him win number 33”

“But I also, in a way, would like to see him win more”

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly “wouldn’t say that [he’s] pleased because [they] obviously want to fight higher up the grid”
