Google is having a massive service disruption.
This is from the Google Search Status Dashboard itself:
“There's an ongoing issue with rankings in Google Search that's affecting a large number of results.”
This issue is unrelated to the ongoing core update rollout, started yesterday. It will take a month to fully roll out.
The algorithm update is supposed to give traffic back to the small publishers who lost clicks at the hands of user generated content (UGC) sites like Reddit and Quora.
This was five months ago, “Every content site I can think of has been obliterated.” “I have lost 60%. I can't afford to pay my writers.”
There is glimmers of hope though.
“Wirecutter is moving up. Still early but this is a good sign.”
From somebody else, “News with this update. Images are reappearing. Some of my posts are reappearing.”
Others don't believe it, “I guess Forbes and Reddit are small publishers, so Google needs to help them out, right?”
“I’ve been waiting since September for my traffic to recover. It dropped over 90%. Had a glimmer of hope in May, then things tanked again. Color me skeptical.”
August will be a very interesting month for organic Google Search.
